Nova and Nova Plus: new smartphones Huawei

It is at the Velodrome in Berlin Huawei held its exclusive event at IFA 2016 in which it presented its new Nova and Nova Plus smartphones. The latter aims to revitalize the offer mid-range Chinese manufacturer providing users of mobile cared aesthetically while maintaining good photos abilities. Discover in this article our grip newborns Huawei.

Huawei Nova Plus - Release date and price
Huawei Nova Plus will not be sold on the French market. In France, only Huawei Nova, with 32 GB of memory and 3GB of RAM, will be available for sale in mid-October at a price of 369 euros. Three colors are offered (Titanium Grey, Luxury Mystic Silver and Gold).

Huawei Nova Plus - Design and finishing
The Nova and Nova Plus have both an arched body and a premium design. The difference between the two devices is primarily at waist level since the Nova has a 5-inch screen while the Nova Plus has a 5.5 inch screen. Battery and megapixel camera also differ between the two models, but the specifications and software features are almost the same.

Huawei Nova is lighter and more compact (141.2 x 69 x 7.1 mm and 146 grams) than its big brother (151.8 x 75.7 x 7.3 mm and 160 grams). The housing is made of metal and has a curved design, making the ergonomic and easy to use with one hand. The smartphone is surrounded by a brushed metal frame and covered by the 2.5D glass.

On the right spine, we find the buttons to turn on / off the device and adjust the volume, and on the right edge we find the site dedicated to the SIM card and the microSD card. On the lower end, we find the gates of the speaker and the USB Type-C, on the top we have the microphone and the jack to connect audio equipment

On the back of Huawei Nova, we find at the top an area dedicated to the camera and, below, the fingerprint reader on four levels (which promises better security). These two elements help distinguish the version of the Nova Nova Plus.

LIn the Plus version, the camera lens is focused toward the center of the device and has a circular shape. To the left we find the flash, below, we find the fingerprint reader that has a square shape as well. During the presentation of the device, the CEO noted that the location of the objective of the camera plays a role in the strength of the device and allows placing a larger battery.

Overall, smartphones have an elegant design quite similar, at least in the front, and are made of metal. The look of Nova Huawei also points out that the Nexus 6P.

Huawei Nova Plus - Screen
Huawei Nova has a 5-inch screen with a resolution Full-HD. In Nova Plus, the definition remains the same but the diagonal increases to 5.5 inches. Both devices use eye protection system that helps prevent eyestrain. The screen is bright but it will have to further investigate and test it under the sunlight.

Huawei Nova Plus - Software Interface
Inside, we find Android 6.0 with Marshmallow brand interface EMUI in its version 4.1. The settings menu and quick access is the same as that on the P9. In the short time I spent with the phone, I have not encountered any crash problem or slowdown.

With Knucle Sense Technology, it is possible to change the size of photos or videos, and with a double tap on the screen you can take a screenshot.

Huawei Nova Plus - Performances
The Nova and Nova Plus have the same specifications except on two points: the battery and the camera. Under the hood we find a Snapdragon processor 625 (octal-core) that operates at a frequency of 2 GHz, backed by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

The transition from one application to another is smooth and I managed to play Asphalt Nitro for a few minutes without any major problems. Our full test we will see more concretely what the device is capable.

Huawei Nova Plus - Camera
During the presentation, the brand has expanded on the picture potential of both devices, and particularly on the front camera that can succeed in selfies even when lighting is poor. You can also optimize the colors of the skin through filters and effects present on the application. Not surprisingly, we found the blogger Xenia Tchoumi for the presentation of the picture potential of these two smartphones.

Nova has a primary camera of 12 megapixels and a front camera of 8 megapixels, while the Nova Plus 16 megapixel rear camera and 8 also at the front.

The front camera also has an optical stabilizer and an anti-shake function to make better selfies. At our final test, we will see if they are as good as the Huawei claims

Huawei Nova Plus - Autonomy
Nova has a non-removable battery of 3020 mAh, whereas that of Nova Plus has a capacity of 3340 mAh. Both smartphones have the quick recharging mode.

The followers of Pokémon GO will be delighted to learn that, as Nova, the brand promises 5 hours of battery involved 48 hours of normal use, 16 hours of surfing 4G, 13 hours of HD video viewing and 73 hours of music.

For Nova Plus, Huawei promises 52 hours of battery life in typical use, 18 hours of 4G browsing, 15 hours of HD video viewing and 82 hours of music. We will check all this of course in our final test in order to see the true potential of the device.

The HTC One A9s has already seen

The HTC One A9s has already seen

The essence of all smartphone manufacturers is to copy each other. If Samsung is most often the object of such criticism, it is because it is the most popular but other manufacturers are not much different. With its new model, the One A9s, HTC builds on its great American rival (which was also inspired another HTC device).

Perhaps you remember the HTC One A9, this smartphone whose resemblance to the iPhone 6 was obvious? It seems that HTC wants to continue in the same vein with the HTC One A9s which itself recalls the iPhone 6s. After all, why bother to create a product when you can be inspired by a competitor who has proven? The Taiwanese manufacturer pushes up the farce even add an s to the end of the name, like the Apple flagship store. So we had the iPhone 6, which has become the iPhone 6s, we now have the HTC One A9 version that becomes the HTC A9s. Certainly this is not the first time that HTC uses a s, but in this context it is quite funny.

Let the Cynicism aside a time to focus on the device. The image shows several interesting elements. On the front we find a physical home button that is probably like that of HTC 10, that is, you have only to touch to use and not to press it. At the back, we can see that the objective of the camera, sensors and flash are no longer on top in the middle, but in the left corner of the phone. Yes, as on the iPhone.

We do not know (yet) the technical characteristics of the device, except that the rear camera uses a lens and 13 megapixel at the front we have a unit of 4 ultrapixels (clean technology HTC). Where HTC can still surprise, it is with its software interface is highly approximate Stock Android.

Through its partnership with Google to manufacture the Nexus, HTC has managed to get rid of the sword of Damocles hanging over his head as a result of accumulated bad results in terms of sales. If all goes well, the device should be presented at IFA.

What do you think of this HTC One A9s? Do you find that HTC is going too far by copying to 's' Apple?

How to make the best pictures on smartphone?

How to make the best pictures on smartphone?

The smartphone has become for many their main camera. If the quality of shots probably never exceed that of high-end digital cameras, including SLRs, it is sufficient for only a few tips and a little common sense, it comes at a very good result. Our tips for taking better photos with your Android will help you get out of clichés worthy of the name, even if your phone is not the best in the field.

Obviously if you have a device that has several years, and a sensor that captures more noise than the image, we can not do anything ... Still, there are some basic rules that will help you improve substantially the quality of your photos. Truce of blah, got back in the thick of it.

the flash
The use of flash is tricky. If the flash can be useful even in direct sunlight to erase shadows or to compensate for a slight lack of brightness, its use in dark environments can be worse than not enough natural light. Tip: use the flash on your smartphone when you are very close to your subject.

If you take a picture, avoid flash whatever happens, it tends to create defects where there is not even in reality.

ISO sensitivity
The light sensitivity, or ISO, is a key element in photography. Without claiming to use methods of pro, you can follow the following principle: at night or in dark environments, select a higher ISO. If your ISO is too high, your photos will have a lot of noise (grain pattern). You can change the ISO on most Android devices. The automatic mode is not always the most effective.

Vibrations, tremors
When taking pictures with a smartphone particular, the movement of the hands is always a problem. It is possible that your smartphone has an optical stabilizer, clearly reduces the problem. But in general, up to the AF good rule issues regarding blurs and other unwanted vibrations. To maximize your chances to take a nice clean picture, hold your smartphone with two hands and lock your elbows close to your body, so as to be stable.

If your smartphone allows, you can reduce the exposure time, resulting in a sharper picture often. A tip: the mode "Sport" is actually a parameterization of very short exposure time, which reduces blurring movements.

Soft Focus
How to make the best pictures on smartphone?

the blur can be used to emphasize the subject of a photo, as seen in the picture teaser here. Let's be clear, it is very difficult to get a nice blur with a smartphone. You can get there by rusant a bit: try for example to focus on a subject while moving yourself, and take the picture so as to keep your subject in the frame, but the background is blurred. This technique works very well with a rather long exposure time. For vagueness: so avoid sport mode, choose a low ISO and turn the flash off.
Timer
The self-timer, or timer, is useful to take a picture without moving the camera, because we do not risk moving when taking the picture by pressing the screen or the release button. If your camera application has not retardant (which is unlikely), you can turn to applications such as Camera Zoom FX for example. It's stupid, but it can make the difference especially when the light is insufficient, and that the smartphone increases the exposure time.

Filters and effects
With the advent of applications such that Instagram , filters and effects have become almost overlooked with. This is not to overload and drowning all our photos of the effects that fade and make all the identical pictures, but sometimes the judicious addition of an effect can recover a bit low light, correct saturation too strong, etc. Keep in mind that a bad photo will remain a bad picture, whatever the effects applied to it!

portrait photo
The portrait is at once one of the simplest types of photos and the most difficult to master. Although depending on your smartphones, some settings you will be impossible to solve, some basic rules and tips can help you create photo profiles worthy of being on Facebook:

Make the focus on the eye: if your smartphone allows, it is usually a good solution.
Fill the frame: no empty area around the subject, a beautiful background blur plant is perfect. Depending on the quality of your camera or you can not blur the background post  successfully or not.
If the subject is in profile, you have to leave room before his eyes, after all nobody is photographed in a closet!
Avoid the sun: the shadows are harsh, the subject squints or gloss front, etc.
If you really can not avoid the sun, put the issue of bias, facing a reflecting sun and stand in front of the subject, back to the wall if the reflector is a wall, for example.

How to make the best pictures on smartphone?

Never face to a female wearing! You probably know people who have the habit of turning to profile their best when someone pretends to lay hands on his camera, and although they are right! A face of 3/4 (bias) always seems thinner and sometimes smiling.
Face for a man. If you want to emphasize the middle of a male subject, a portrait of face, with exposed shoulders.

Clean the lens
It sounds stupid, and that is: clean your smartphone camera sensor will greatly improve the quality of your shots! How many times I was surprised by the poor quality of a particular photo, before saying the photos taken with the same smartphone ... were better for me to realize that it was that of a poorly cleaned lens. The ideal is to use a soft, clean cloth, beware of sand grains in particular, which can leave irreparable scratches.

Enable manual focus
Most current smartphones allow a manual focus, and disable the autofocus. This is particularly useful when the lighting is dim and the smartphone barely carry a tune. On Android, do a manual focus is very simple, simply touch the screen where the focus is desired to.

How to make the best pictures on smartphone?

Use both hands
This is slightly less class than taking a selfie with one hand, but keep your smartphone with both hands when taking a photo will ensure greater stability and therefore greater clarity. If you are a perfectionist, just hold your breath a few seconds before taking a picture, and press your elbows or arms on what you can: table corner, bar, post, lamp, etc.

Zoom with your feet
Do not use the digital zoom! Unlike optical zoom, digital zoom, either on a compact camera or smartphone is the guarantee of a beautiful pixel boil. So keep in mind this rule: if you feel the need to zoom, leave it and move. Come you closer to the subject, hence the term "zoom with your feet."

A foreground subject
We all know those pictures of mundane landscapes. It is a pity that sometimes we are faced with a panorama or an exceptional building, which is desired to capture the vastness and the result is a flat picture and anything but impressive. The solution: add a subject or a subject in the foreground of your photo, to give more depth and so bring out the landscape in question, the real subject of the photo.

The rule of thirds
The concept of the rule of thirds is not really new. It has been used for centuries by painters. It is still topical and perfectly suits the photograph. The principle is simple, the image is divided into thirds, vertically and horizontally. At the intersection of these imaginary lines, we will place the most important subjects of the photo. For example you can try to take a picture by placing the horizon line on the bottom third line of the image, and move your main subject (a person, a tree, etc.) to the intersection of a side of the image. For more information and illustrations, take a look at the Wikipedia page for the rule of thirds .

A straight horizon line
Again, it sounds obvious, but not necessarily to think of it when taking a photo. If you keep in mind that your horizon line should be straight, you get a much more pleasing result to watch, especially on the big screen. What's more frustrating than to proudly show photos of his last vacation to his friends on his TV and realize at the last moment that it is not even right?

The light
Picture, light is your best friend. This is even more the case for smartphones, which have only small sensors that capture little brightness. Try to find the place where the subject is better informed, while not end up facing the sun. The ideal is to be back to the light source without making any visible shadows in the photo. And only sometimes really not easy.

Go to the dark side
Contrary to popular belief, direct sunlight has an impact on the overall quality of a photo. The shadows are pronounced effect, and exposure may be too high. If the human eye can compensate for excess light, photo sensors in our smartphones them, do not. For a successful outdoor portrait, for example, wait a few clouds point the tip of their nose.

Play with perspective
Most of the time, we take the unit in front of you, at eye level. However, it sometimes gets interesting results if we change of perspective. Try for example a light-cons diving for a portrait, or put you at a child if the shooting.

effective treatment
With a heartfelt light treatment, you can sublimate a photo taken with a simple smartphone. Play with the contrast to bring out the most important objects, apply a slight blur to reinvigorate a somewhat flat photo, etc. Avoid against by filters and pseudo-artistic frames, which are attractive at first, you lasserons and give an appearance too fancy to your photos.

These simple tips and techniques you will improve the overall quality of your photos. If you know of others, please let us know!
